Welcome to our new Intermediate Designer
KSAS has added to our Vancouver group.   She joins us as a Intermediate Designer and we look forward to her as valuable member of our KSAS team!

KSAS is Registered in Ontario
KSAS is now registered with the Ontario Architectural Association, along with our British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba registrations we are happy to be a part of Ontario as well.

Congratulations to the Environment Design student on her graduation
Our summer student has graduated from Environmental Design at the University of Manitoba and will be entering into the Masters of Architecture graduate program.  We wish her all the best in her next steps program.

New patio enclosure for Chairmans' Steakhouse
We just completed the new patio enclosure on the north patio of Chairmans' Steakhouse. It now has an operable louvre for the roof plus infrared heaters.  This will allow the area to have an extended seasonal use for diners earlier in the spring and later in the fall.
 
Thanks to the team from CREATE. Construction Management Group for allowing us to be part of this project.



2023 Consulting Engineers of Alberta Sustainable Design Award
KSAS is excited to announce the Modern Integrated Waste Management Facility project in Lethbridge has been awarded the 2023 Consulting Engineers of Alberta Showcase Awards, Award of Excellence in Sustainable Design.

We are pleased to have an Environmental Design student return to our office for another summer
We are thrilled to have an Environmental Design student back with us for another year in the summer.  She has completed her 4th year as an Environmental Design student at the University of Manitoba and will be entering into the Masters of Architecture graduate program.  She will be here into August before embarking on her masters degree.

Completion of Pine Valley Senior's Residence
We are pleased to announce the completion of the Pine Valley Senior's Residence and would like to congratulate Evergreen Foundation on their new facility for Hinton and area. We would like to thank Scott Builders and our consultant team on a successful project.

KSAS was happy to be able to host in person our first client appreciate party since 2019.  We were thrilled to see all our clients and consultants enjoy the evening at the Zoo.  We look forward to seeing everyone at next years event.


Welcome back to our Environmental Design student
We welcome back an Environmental Design student from the University of Manitoba, having just completed her 3rd year in the program and she is back with us for the summer.  The program is an undergraduate design program set up as a pre-requisite to the Masters of Architecture graduate program.  She will be here into August before returning for her 4th graduate year.

Opening of our Vancouver Office
As of May 1, 2022 Kumlin Sullivan Architecture Studio is pleased to announce the opening of our Vancouver office.  The office is located in Cole Harbour, #690, 1199 West Pender Street, Vancouver, BC  V6E 2R1.  Our Senior Associate has relocated and is excited to be running this new office.

Novus Earth - New Aquaponics Facility Announcement

Kumlin Sullivan Architecture Studio is proud to have teamed with Novus Earth.   The new Novus Earth Latitude 53 Development is a new world-class aquaponics facility being proposed for Hinton, Alberta.   The proposed facility will combine the growth of fresh-water shrimp along with multiple vegetable and fruit plants in a controlled environment.  A unique feature of the facility will be the combined development of a geothermal heating facility capturing the nearby geothermal heat sources to both heat and power the facility.   Kumlin Sullivan looks forward to working with Novus Earth on this unique facility that will change how they feed Western Canadians on an annual basis.

Completion of Internship program

Completion of ROSEN Canada facility and 2021 NAIOP Rex Award
We are pleased to announce the completion of the ROSEN Canada facility and congratulate them for being selected 2021 NAIOP Rex Awards Industrial Facility of the Year.  We also want to congratulate TRL & Associates, Sedulous Engineering, MAKE Design Lab Inc. and Leeswood Construction that were an integral part of the team.

North Wind Wellness Centre (NWWC) - New Addiction Centre Announcement



We have just completed the Feasibility Study for the proposed North Wind Wellness Centre to be located at Farmington, BC.  The study will be going to the various funding agencies for review.
The design is proposed to be completed by December and construction documents are slated for January.

The society serves the First Nations Indigenous and Non-Indigenous communities of northern BC and Alberta. This a great opportunity to contribute to the local groups by providing not only treatment facilities, but a cultural centre as a source of pride where elders and others can exchange and pass on their cultural and spiritual traditions. This will be carried out through a direct connection to the land with vocational and agricultural recovery programs.

The first phase of the project is due to be completed in the Spring 2023.

Internship -  Junior Technician

Kumlin Sullivan Architecture Studio would like to announce an internship as a Junior Technician in our office for the next 20 weeks.  Internships like this give a student practical experience, in conjunction with their studies, to be a more well-rounded candidate upon graduation.

He has completed a Diploma of Architectural Technology from SAIT Polytechnique (2019) and is currently furthering his studies at VIA University College in Denmark in their ATCM program.  This university, and their program, have an association with SAIT and recognize the SAIT program as a prerequisite.

We have supported the practicum program with SAIT and have taken on many SAIT students over the years through their practicum program.  We are pleased to have the opportunity to collaborate with VIA and their internship program, furthering our commitment to supporting new members in the industry.  He will be with us until January of 2022 at which time he will be returning to Denmark to complete his studies.

Bill Kumlin becomes Lifetime Member



Kumlin Sullivan Architecture Studio would like to announce that Bill Kumlin, AAA, has been honoured with a Lifetime Membership with the Alberta Association of Architects (AAA).  This is offered to members in good standing with 30+ years as a registered architect.
 
Bill graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1987 and moved to Calgary shortly thereafter.  He got registered in 1991 with the AAA and started his own practice in 1998.  In 2015, he joined with Barry Sullivan to create Kumlin Sullivan Architecture Studio.  Most recently, Bill received a Post Graduate Certificate in Built and Landscape Heritage, preservation and restoration.
 
Bill has worked in numerous jurisdictions throughout Alberta and BC, on a variety of project types.  Many of his clients have been with him for over 20 years.
 
We congratulate Bill on reaching this milestone in his career.

Bill has completed the Built and Landscape Heritage Certificate Program at UofC.  He will continue to be available to assitst you with projects in your buildings of historic and heritage significance.

Certificate program bridges past and future stories.

Our heritage conservation and preservation through the Built and Landscape Heritage Certificate Program.
Bill has completed formal classes for the Built and Landscape Heritage Certificate Program at the UofC.  He will finish the program in the new year with a final self directed assignment and receive his Certificate upon completion.
 
Bill was recently interviewed by the University of Calgary regarding his decision to take the Built and Landscape Heritage Certificate Program at the UofC.  See the link to the article for his take on the program and his reasons for taking the course and how he sees it enhancing the KSAS portfolio.
