Position Summary
This role combines project coordination and technical leadership to support the delivery of architectural projects through all phases, with a strong emphasis on informing design development, construction documentation and project execution.
The Project Manager / Job Captain is responsible for coordinating internal and external project teams, leading the development of construction documents, and ensuring that work aligns with the firm’s technical standards and design intent. This role will also support internal quality practices and contribute to consistent documentation, while participating in construction-phase services as part of the project team.
Working closely with Senior Project Managers, Design Leads, and Production leadership, this role bridges design and technical delivery, ensuring projects are well-coordinated, buildable, and efficiently executed.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology or Architecture
Typically 8–10 years of relevant experience (ideally 5 years in Canada)
Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD (current versions), Bluebeam, and standard documentation tools.
Working knowledge of construction administration processes (RFIs, submittals, site reviews)
Solid understanding of building systems, local codes and bylaws, construction methods, and their application/coordination.
Key Objectives
Deliver accurate, coordinated, and technically sound construction documentation
Support project teams in meeting deadlines, scope, and quality expectations
Apply and reinforce internal production standards and best practices
Ensure effective coordination between architectural and consultant teams
Contribute to smooth project transitions into construction and support contract administration
Ensure compliance with local building codes, bylaws and standards
Core Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Technical Leadership
Lead drawing production and coordinate project teams, project management, responsibility for scheduling, communication, and overall project delivery.
Manage project execution and delivery, including schedule, efficiency, project resources and financial performance.
Technical Documentation & Execution
Prepare and oversee coordinated, accurate construction documents, resolving technical issues and ensuring alignment with design intent and building systems.
Standards & Quality Alignment
Apply and support office standards, workflows, and best practices to maintain consistency and quality across project documentation.
Champion and implement Quality Assurance processes across multiple projects within the firm.
Liaise with municipal and regulatory authorities.
Construction Administration Support
Participate in construction-phase services, including review of RFIs, submittals, and site documentation, helping ensure alignment with contract documents, field reviews, prepare and issue deficiency reports, assist with permit and project closeout processes.
Coordination & Communication
Facilitate clear communication between internal teams, consultants, and stakeholders, supporting timely resolution of project issues.
Team Support & Mentorship
Provide guidance to junior staff, assist with drawing reviews, and contribute to a collaborative and technically strong studio environment.
