Project Description:
Barry Sullivan, as a Senior Architectural Designer at Gibbs Gage Architects was the primary project designer responsible for the design and planning of this fermentation and distribution building development. Barry was also responsible for coordination with the municipal planning department for all permit applications. Highwood Distillers was increasing capacity on their distillery site and required a location for additional cask storage for their growing demand. This was the design and construction of a new specially designed cask storage facility which accommodates up to 32,000 casks over four distinctive storage rooms. The building was specifically designed to handle the natural distilling process of alcohol including specially designed exhaust systems for when staff entry into the rooms was required. The building was designed to handle high alcohol content in the ambient air while mitigating alcohol seepage from the rooms. This building also accommodated their new primary loading and distribution centre.
