Project Description:
This residence is a timber frame home for an empty nest couple in Northern BC. The building site is on a 40 acre property overlooking Charlie Lake just outside of Fort St. John BC. Home was placed in a clearing, just back from the edge of a cliff along the shoreline. The home was designed to be heated with a Danish made cast iron stove which sits in the basement in a central location. The concrete block fireplace on the main floor, continuous to the roof, heats up from the basement stove and radiates heat back into the 2 storey space of the home. The structure is from BC timber and is covered with SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) providing a well insulated envelope with minimal thermal bridges. Along with the central heating stove and fireplace, it is a very comfortable home. The second floor is only a partial floor with the dining and living areas open to the roof and the 2nd level above. It contains the master bedroom, open to the rest of the home, a large ensuite, and a large area for a second TV area. The main floor contains kitchen, living and dining areas along with a small intimate TV room and one bedroom (originally a mother-in-law suite). The basement has the service areas plus an office and large 3rd bedroom. This level is a walkout to a large patio area for BBQ’s and a hot tub. This area opens onto a landscaped area complete with waterfalls and Koi ponds. Also on the site is a 3 vehicle garage with an apartment suite above for guests or visiting employees. It also serves as the owner’s business office.
